One of the most significant professional ice hockey team in the United States of America, the Phoenix Coyotes was established in 1972. The Coyotes was originally founded as the original Winnipeg Jets of the World Hockey Association (WHA). The team was one of the four franchises into the National Hockey League (NHL) in 1979 when the WHA folded. The team relocated to Phoenix on July 1, 1996 where they changed their name into their current name. The team is currently based in the Phoenix suburb of Glendale, Arizona, USA and spends their home games played at the Jobing.com Arena since December 2003 with Shane Doan as the team’s captain since 2003. The team is also owned by the NHL since 2009 after their former owner turned them over to the league due to bankruptcy.

The Coyotes had great standing in their history. They have been qualified to advance to the Conference Finals for the first time since they entered the league, having defeated the Nashville Predators in 5 games on May 7, 2012. Their team captain Shane Doan received the King Clancy Memorial Trophy in 2009-10 seasons and the Mark Messier Leadership Award in 2011-12 seasons.
